Why are northern plains important to Indian economy?

Dear Student

The alluvial soil deposits in the Northern plains make the plains very fertile . The Ganga , Indus and Bramhaputra and their branches form a network of water supply to the plains . Fertile soil along with good climate and abundant water make agriculture a fruitful occupation of the plains . So this plain is very vital for Indian economy . The rivers are navigable throughout the year . These plains are also known as the " granaries of India " . Agricultural production from these plains is very important for Indian economy .
