Why are preliminary expenses deducted , to calculate Shareholder's funds; while calculating Debt-equity ratio?

Dear Student, Preliminary Expenses are Fictitious Assets, which should be written off over the the period of time, therefore, these does not form the part of long-term assets of the company. Hence, these are deducted while calculating Shareholder's Funds.
