Why are some substances biodegradable and some are non- biodegradable???

Some substances are biodegradable and some are non bio-degradable. This is because of the specific action of the enzymes produced by bacteria or decomposers. The enzymes can break down natural substances into non poisonous simpler substances but cannot act on man-made substances like plastics.

Substances which are of organic origin are biodegradable, while those of inorganic origin are non-biodegradable. Organic substances can be utilised by decomposers as food, while other substances cannot be utilised by decomposers as food. Due to this, some substances are biodegradable while some others are non-biodegradable.

This actually depends upon how strong the bond is between the atoms if the bond is weaker means if the secreation of enzymes can break down then the substance is termed biodegradable and vice versa
sorry for the spelling mistake
thank you for reading ☻

The micro organisms like bacteria and other decomposer organisms present in our enviornment are specific in their action . They break down natural substances or products made from natural substances but do not break down man made substances . So it is property of decomposer organisms of being specific in their action that some waste substances are biodegradable whereas some are non biodegradable

After this picture these non biodegradable substances will be acted upon by physical processes like heat and pressure

Dear friend

Its because,
Some of substances in our ecosystem are not capable of being convert into simpler form
by decomposers

The simpler form means inorganic substance
Like oxygen, Carbon di oxide, nitrogen, iron, sulphur, phosphorus?, etc....

For Ex: human body (organic substance)when burrowed in soil after death it will be decomposed/digested by bacteria and get converted into nitrogen, carbon, iron, sulphur and so on(inorganic substance) and elements which it was made of.

But some are not capable of being digested
By decomposers ex: plastic, chemicals.

* The organism which are converted(Digested)into simpler form is called bio degradable and which cannot be converted (Digested) into simpler form is called non biodegradable

So these are said to be biodegradable and non-bio degradable

THANK YOU

Some substance are biodegradable and non biodegradable because some substance that are decomposed by microorganisms and some can not form that they are broken down into simple soluble are called as biodegradable substances

Some substance that are decomposed by harmless substances are called as nonbiodegradable substances

Because some substances easily degraded by microorganisms (biodegradable materials) eg. Vegetable peels. but some substances cannot be degraded which can be a major cause for pollution. Eg. Plastic.
