why are the hot air balloons still used for weather observations? please explain me on the basis ofch- states of matter.

Hot air balloons or weather balloons are instruments that are used to gather information about weather and atmosphere. These are made up of latex or synthetic elastic material. These are filled with a gas lighter than air such as hydrogen or helium which helps them to float. The average diameter of inflated balloon is around 6 ft. When the balloon rises high in the atmosphere the diameter increases up to three times or even more before bursting.
Since there are gases at both side of balloon, it is sensitive to pressure and volume change. By detecting the pressure and volume at different heights in side the balloon, it gives the idea of atmospheric pressure at different heights using the real gas equations.
Other than it , it is also fitted with sensors that measure ambient temperature, humidity, ozone levels, CO2 levels, etc and send them to the earth stations with the help of transponder. Hence they are best instrument to study weather and still are in use.
