why are the lakshadweep islands called the coral islands

Lakshadweep are called the coral islands because these islands are formed due to the deposition of corals, which are skeletons of tiny marine animals called polyps.When the living polyps die,their skeletons are left.Other polyps grew on top of the hard skeleton which grew higher and higher,thus these islands are formed.

Lakshadweep is an island, where corals skeleton of tiny marine animal are called polyps .
  When the living polyps die, their skeleton are left. Other polyps grow on top of the hard skeleton which  grows higher and higher,  thus  forming  the coral island . That is why   Lakshadweep  is known as coral island.

Lakshadweep islands were called coral islands because it was formed from tiny creatures called polyps.Some corals grew on top and started to grow virogriously
