Why areamino acids said to function as zwitterion?

Dear student
A zwitterion is a compound which contains both positively and negatively charged groups in the same molecule.

For example, amino acids

H2N-R-COOH

form zwitterions: the proton leaves the carboxylic acid group and the amine group becomes protonated, resulting in

+H3N-R-COO-
Thus, Amino acids have both basic group which is Amine group and Acidic group which is  carboxylic grp . At isoelectric point it form NH4+ And form zwitter ion.

Amino acids have both basic grp i.e., Amine grp and Acidic grp i.e., carboxylic grp .At isoelectric point the H of cooh attach to NH3 and form NH4+ And form zwitter ion
May it helps u :)
