After the battle of Kalinga Ashoka gave up wars. It was because  the blood shed on the battle field filled his heart with sorow, pain etc. he thought that who was he to kill the people? Did he have the right to kill so lovely creations of god? He made a decision never to fight wars in his life and introduced dhamma,in which no one could kill the other one and anyone could accept the dhamma.
