why bcl3 does not dimerise? Is it due to the absence of d orbital in Boron?
Boron is an electron deficient element and the absence of d orbital prevent the dimerisation. As well as the steric effect occur by chlorine atom. That is the smaller B cann't accommodate the Cl atom. But at very low temperature the dimerisation of BCl3 occur.
But BH3 dimerise due to the smaller H atom.
