Why bony fishes and aquatic amphibians are ammonetelic in nature?

Dear student,

Most of the fishes and aquatic amphibians are ammonotelic in nature. They secrete waste nitrogen as molecular ammonia or ammonium ion. This method of nitrogen secretion is the least energetically costly. Since ammonia is highly soluble in water, they use different mechanisms including outwardly directed NH3 partial pressure and diffusion across body surface or gill surface.

Regards.

Generally aquatic amphibians and bony fishes are AMMONITELIC in nature. Thus is because ammonia is highly toxic and readily soluble in water. It is generally excreted by diffusion across body surface or through gill surfaces as ammonium ions.
