why co-ordinate bond is called semi-polar bond

Co-ordinate bond is formed when an atom(donor) shares its pair of electron with the other different atom (acceptor). The formation of co-ordinate bond can be shown by the following steps :-
Step 1 :- Loss of an electron from the donor atom , which is been accepted by the acceptor atom. As a result the donor atom acquires a positive charge while the acceptor attains a negative charge. This is formation of electrovalent bond.
Step 2:- The charged species contribute one electron each to share both the electrons by both atom. This is the formation of covalent bond.

Due to this combination of electrovalent and covalent bond , co-ordinate bond are also called as semi-polar bond.

  • 3

it is because both electrons are given by one atom and they are more attracted to the atom than the other

  • 3

because in this bond both transfer of electron and sharing of electron are done .
