why covalent compounds are poor conductors of electricty???

COVALENT COPOUNDS DO NOT CONDUCT ELECTRICITY BECAUSE THEY DO NOT HAVE FREE ELECTRONS OR IONS. CURRENT RESULTS FROM THE MOTION OF ELECTRONS OR IONS, WHICH ARE CHARGED SPECIES. 

IONIC COMPOUNDS FURNISH IONS ON DISSOLVING IN WATER OR ANY OTHER IONIC SOLVENT. ON DISSOLVING COVALENT COMPOUNDS  IN AQOUEOUS SOLUTION THEY DO NOT FORM IONS, NOR POSSESS FREE ELECTRONS SO THEY ARE POOR CONDUCTORS OF ELECTRICITY.

 COVANLENT COMPOUNDS ARE MADE FORM SHRING OF ELECTRONS AND HENCE THE HAVE NO FREE ELECTRONS OR IONS AND AS CURRENT NEEDS A MEDIUM TO FLOW SO THEY CANNOT CONDUCT ELCTRICITY
