why did d ghost charge d cantervilles of dishonesty ?how did virginia encounter these charges?

The ghost charged the Otis family for being dishonest, apart from being horrid, rude and vulgar because they were always looking to make his existence difficult and refused to be scared by him. However, Virginia countered the charge by pointing out that it was the ghost who was all of those things because he used to steal the paints out of her box to try and furbish up that blood stain on the library floor. He had taken her reds, including the vermilion and then had taken to stealing her emerald green and chrome yellow for the blood stain. Therefore, he had no right to call others dishonest.
