Why did Dr. Herriot decide to take Tricki to hospital?

Dr. Herriot brought Tricki into the clinic because he was bloated and overweight as a result of over-feeding by his mistress. Mrs. Pumphrey was an over pampering lady who overfed her dog and pampered him silly. He got no exercise, was overfed and became overweight.
