why did grandmother dissapprove learning of music?

The grandmother was disheartened to hear that the school taught music lessons to the students. She considered music to be a  downgraded activity which belonged to beggars and not to the gentlefolk. Besides this, she was disturbed to hear that there was no religious teaching rendered in the school.

She dissaproved leaning of music because she was a rural lady and was always interested in reciting prayers but was least bothered about the music. Hence when her grandson exclaimed that he was being taught music in class which was not religous she was upset and disheartened.

According to the grand mother, music had lewd associations and not meant for gentlefolk. Beggars and harlots had something to do with it. She did not at all approve of music.
