Why did Indian farmers not willing to cultivate Indigo?
Dear Student
Indian farmers were not willing to grow indigo because it required extremely fertile soil on which peasants prefer to cultivate rice. Indigo plantation had deep roots which exhausted the soil. After indigo plantation, rice on that land could not be cultivated. Peasants realised that the price which they are getting for the indigo produced by them was very low and the cycle of loans was never ending.
