Why did Mahatma Gandhi began a fast unto death when the British government conceded Ambedkar's demand?

Dear student,

Mahatma Gandhi began a fast unto death when the British government conceded Ambedkar's demand because he felt that the  demands for separate electorates for dalits would lead to disintegration of the society. However, this clash was resolved when Dr. Ambedkar accepted the Poona Pact in 1932 which gave Depressed Classes (Scheduled Castes) reserved seats in provincial and central legislative councils, but they were to be voted by the general electorate.

Regards.
