Why did Mulayam Singh introduce the idea of a third FRONT?

And please just give me the reason of why he made a third FRONT. Just the reason.. not whatever about Mulayam Singh.
Mulayum Singh introduced the idea of a Third Front in order to unify all political parties who were not allied with the Congress of BJP.
