Why did Taplow not "cut" from there when Frank told him to do so?

Taplow did not want to "cut" and go do something else because, he was afraid of Mr. Crocker-Harris and was afraid of what he would do if he found out that Taplow had cut. He says that Mr Crocker-Harris might even follow him home.
