Why did the narrator make up his mind to get Ranga married? How did Ratna behave when she saw Ranga for the first time?

Upon questioning Ranga, the narrator found out that Ranga wished to remain as a bachelor. The narrator was saddened by this because he felt that Ranga would have made a good husband. Hence he made up his mind to get Ranga married.
When Ratna first saw Ranga, she was startled by his presence and stopped singing. When Ranga entered the house, she walked away and stood at a distance.
