The evil practice of child marriage is prevalent in parts of India because of the backward and superstitious mentality of people. Many people feel that if children grow up in without being married, they may lose their moral character and go astray. This fear is particularly prevalent with regard to girl childs. Hence, parents feel it is safe to get their children, particularly, daughters married early so that their character and chastity can be protected.
