Why do different cells in our body have different life spans?

Dear Student,

The average life span of the cells in our body varies from few hours to days. For example, RBC is present for 120 days. These cells are of different size and shape in our body. This variation is responsible for divison of labour inside our body. These cells are specialised in a certain function, so after a certain period of time and performing its work the cells start to age and die. This dead cells are replaced by the new cells. So when the cells die, they divide itself and leading to some loss of amount of DNA gradually. Due to this loss of nuclus and sometimes some of other organelles the cell can not further repair itself and gradually leads to death.

One reason cells age is because every time they divide, they lose a little bit of DNA from the ends of their chromosomes. This eventually leads to a loss of important DNA, and they die.
Each type of cell has its own life span, and when a human dies it may take hours or day before all the cells in the body die .
