Why do ferric chloride stop bleeding?? Suggest any other substances which can be used in place of ferric chloride for the same?

The blood consists of the negatively charged colloidal particles like albuminoid particles and the ferric chloride is positively charged. When ferric chloride solution is applied on wound the colloidal particles surround the solution and form a clot. This causes coagulation of the blood,  which stops further bleeding.
Alum has the astringent properties and helps in blood clotting.
It corrugates the surrounding tissues and causes contraction of the capillaries, and, in this manner, acts as an astringent . and the further clotting action  is performed by blood physiology naturally.
