why do NH3 gets protonated to form NH4+ ion?
Ammonia(NH3) gets protonated into ammonium ions(NH4+) because plants absorb nitrogen in the form of ammonium ions. The atmospheric nitrogen is reduced into ammonium ions so that it can be absorbed and utilised by the plants.
