Why do some states have high infant mortality rate?

Dear Student,

Infant mortality rate refers to the number of children that die before the age of one year as a proportion of 1000 live children born in that particular year. That explains the health standards  of a particular state or a country.

Some states have high infant mortality rate because:

a. Lack of better health care facilities within the reach of people by both private and public hospitals.
b. Low health standard of the region
c. Birth defects among the infants
d. Lack of awareness among the people about various diseases
d. Neglect on part of the state machinery to provide better pre natal care.
