Why do the southern slopes of himalayas have coniferous vegetation? Also give examples of coniferous trees found in the region.

Dear student,

Here is the answer:

1)  In mountainous regions, there is decrease in temperature with increasing altitudes and as such a variety of natural vegetation forms are found here

2)  The wet temperate type of forests cover most of the Southern slopes of the Himalayas, and places having high altitudes. The type of vegetation form found here are evergreen broad leaf trees such as oaks etc.

3)  Temperature favour natural vegetation and as a result, southern slopes which have this climatic condition possess more plant species than Northern slopes of the same Himalayan region.

4) Pine, deodar, silver fir, spruce and cedar, are the coniferous   trees  found in the southern slopes of the Himalaya.
