Why do we do denaturation by alkali solution explain

Dear Student,

The double-stranded DNA is treated with alkali so that denaturation may take place. This leads to the unwinding of the double-stranded DNA and also weakens the hydrogen bonds that hold the two strands together, causing them to break.
