Why do you think does the poet say nothing about her mother's death?

The poet does not make any explicit references to her mother's death because it is subtly couched in the narration of the photograph incident. The title of the poem suggests that death reduces a person to just a memory,a photograph, snatched out of the flow of time and frozen in that moment forever. The poet remarks that she has nothing to say about the instance of her mother's death because it is a silence, an absence that speaks for itself. Loss has a presence of its own, it makes itself conspicuous by its absence and this can only be felt by one who has suffered such a loss.
