why does a ball, rolling on the ground, in a straight, come to rest after travelling a certain distance?

The ball come s to rest due to friction.

The ball comes to rest because no force is applied on the ball. before this force was applied on the ball so the ball was rolling. but now no force is applied on the ball so the ball stops to roll forward
