why does a person who suffered once from small pox not suffer with it again ?

At the first time on getting infected by small pox virus, the body of the person does not contain any antibodies to fight against it. But as we first get infected, our body produces antibodies to fight against the small pox infection which remains in the body for lifetime. So, the next time when the person gets infected from small pox, the antibodies present in the body fight against this small pox viral infection; hence the person would not be affected by the disease. Thus, the person can suffer from small pox only once in his complete lifetime.

When we suffer from small pox antibodies against the virus causing small pox are prepared by the body. As the disease cures, the antibodies remain in the body. Next time if the virus attacks, the anti bodies already present in the immune system fight and do not allow the virus to infect. Thus it is believed that once if we suffer from small pox we will not suffer from this particular disease again.

All other type of poxes like cow pox, etc is caused by different type of viruses. So antibodies against small pox virus will not be able to fight with other viruses. To eradicate them our body needs specific antibodies of those viruses.

thumps up......
