Why does a rubber sucker stick to the wall when it is pressed against the wall

Dear Student,
When we press a rubber sucker on a smooth surface, it sticks to the surface. This happens because there is very little air between the sucker and the smooth surface to push from inside which creates a vacuum type situation. Therefore, the greater atmospheric pressure from outside pushes the sucker firmly to the surface and hence helping to stick to the surface firmly.
