why does a short flute produce sound of lower pitch than long flutes

A short flute produces a HIGHER PITCH not lower pitch pitch. this is because the vibrating column for air becomes short and the air blown can travel the length of the flute in lesser time and hence it will have a smaller time period , thus more frequency and hence a sound of HIGHER PITCH.

A short flute produces low pitched sound than a long flute as the pitch of a flute or any wind instrument can be altered by changing the length of the vibrating air column. Hope my answer helps 😊 😊
