why does collenchyma absent in monocots??

Dear student,
Please find below the solution to the asked query

Collenchyma tissue is usually present in the stem and leaf stalks of dicots. It is absent in monocots and in the roots of dicots. Most of the  monocots develop sclerenchyma tissue in their early stages of development. However there are some exceptions like- in grasses, collenchyma  substitutes sclerenchyma at many locations such as at the junction of blade and sheath.
Hence, collenchyma is not completely absent in monocots.

Hope this information will clear your doubts about the topic.

Collenchyma is absent in monocots as they are primary supporters in stems, flowers  and  leaves of dicots. Instead of them sclerenchyma is present in monocots
