Why does cortisol inhibits the cellular uptake of amino acids?

Dear student,

Cortisol is a glucocorticoid and a steroid hormone synthesised from zona fasciculata of Adrenal Cortex.
It's main function is to increase blood glucose levels through gluconeogenesis.
Thus cortisol inhibits cellular uptake of amino acids and there by decreases of protein synthesis, these amino acids which are not absorbed into the cells are transported to the liver to facilitate the process of gluconeogenesis and increasing the glucose levels in the blood.
