Why does 'g'vary at different places on earth


Differentiate between g and G

Dear student, the apparent value of g vary at different places of earth due to two reasons. First the distance of two objects from the centre of mass. Since the earth is not perfect sphere so the points near the equator are farthest owning to the bulging of the earth while the poles are flat so the points are near. Hence the force of gravity is smaller at equator than at poles. Second reason is the centrifugal force caused due to the rotation of the earth and which points away from the axis of rotation.
