why does mr. frank take exception to taplow`s remarks implying that masters are sadists?

Dear student 

Frank does not actually make an exception to Taplow's remarks. However, he is shocked by what he hears saying, "Good Lord!​ What are our schools coming to?" He is shocked hearing that some masters are sadists and shocked that students think so. Hence he is unable to react in any other way towards the remark.
