- Why does physiosorption deceases with the increase of temperature?
Dear Student,
In adsorption, an equilibrium is established between the gas in contact with the solid and the adsorbed gas at any temperature and pressure. Adsorption and desorption of gas molecule take up simultaneously setting up dynamic equilibrium. Since physisorption is an exothermic process, therefore, according to Le Chatelier's principle on increasing temperature, the equilibrium shifts more towards backside i.e. desorption will occur. Hence. physisorption decreases with increasing temperature.
