why does stereotyping lead to backwardness of certain groops

a.  An individuals' identity is based on his self perception and what other's think about him/her.
b. However, society creates stereotypes and  fixes  people into one image which over a period of time becomes part of our identity.
c. For instance, Indian society has always fixed women in a particular realm regarding private sphere for them.
d. This attitude has developed over a period of time due to the general mind set of the parents and society. Girls are told to be caring, be helping hand to their mothers, look after the house whereas this kind of work is generally not accepted for boys. It is due to this approach girl's education is not encouraged. Women are also paid less at the work place.
e. We may also give example of Muslims  who become victim of discrimination, Their customs are distinct from other religious communities, so much so that they are identified as separate from the mainstream leading to unfair treatment and discriminatory attitude against them.
f. Or even lower caste group, who were the victims of the rigid caste system, witnessed oppression, discrimination . Their economic condition and backwardness can be attributed to the general attitude of society towards them which prevented them to integrate.
