why for proper transport of o2 and co2 blood should be slightly alkaline?

Dear Student,

Blood pH should always be maintained at the range of 7.35 to 7.45 pH which is slightly alkaline. There are blood buffers in our body which continuously maintain this pH range. A drop of blood pH below 7 will result in acidosis which can cause coma and even death. This causes depression of the central nervous system. Therefore it is necessary to maintain a slightly alkaline pH of blood at all times.
