Why ganga is considered as pure river

The Ganga river is considered as holy/pure river. This is because according to Indian mythology and the Puranas, there are stories on how Lord Shiva captured the flow of River Ganga in his Jata( hair bun). Thus it is belief that Ganga originates from Lord Shiva himself. Also, river Ganga is a great epic of Mahabharata with reference to King Shantanu.
The river water of Ganga is equated to nectar in Indian traditions due to its purity and sanctity.
