why growth is not the defining property of living organisms?

In simple terms growth may be defined as an increase in size and mass. Growth can not be taken as a defining property for living beings, because non- living things can also grow i.e. they increase in size and mass. For example size of a mountain can increase by the accumulation of large amount of snow. Thus only growth is not a criterion of being alive.

Growth is the measurable parameter i.e,increase in mass/height/size..livings and non livings both increase in size/mass or weight.hence, growth occurs in both livings and non livings, therefore, growth cannot be used as the defining property of livings....THUMBS UP PLZ:):):)
