Why hemichordata is called half chordates?

The term Hemichordata—meaning “half,” thus, “half-chordate”—was first proposed because  a tubular outgrowth from the mouth cavity forward into the proboscis, or “snout,” resembled a rudimentary notochord—the dorsal, or back-side, supporting axis of the more primitive vertebrates.

The name hemichordata literally means they are half chordates a fact that is undisputed. This name was derived on the basis of a structure present in their body which was considered to be their notochord.Thats why hemichordatas are now considered nonchordates.HOPE U LIKE IT!!!!!
