Why ionization enthalpy of akali metal decreases down the group???

Dear student, The ionization enthalpies of the alkali metals are considerably low and decrease down the group from Li to Cs. The ionization enthalpies of the alkali metals decrease down the group from Li to Cs because the increase in size dominates overĀ  the increase in nuclear charge. As a result, the attraction between valence shell electrons and nucleus decreases down the group and therefore, the ionisation enthalpies decrease from Li to Cs. Regards,

Ionisation enthalpy of alkali metal decreases down the group with increase in their downwars. As we go down the gp the the electrostatic force of attraction(ionic or electrovalent bond) decreases with increase in size.
