Why is dna replication called semiconservative ?

because one strand of dna is parental and one is newly synthesis

During replication, the original strand splits into two and new strands are constructed on each. since the one of the two strands of the new DNA belongs to the old DNA (it is conserved) type of replication is called semiconservative replication.
