Why is human relationship subtle and complex. How is Kamala Das trapped in this maze?

Human relationships are subtle and complex as well as being full of nuances. Kamala Das' relationship with her mother explains the case in point. On the one hand, she feels a strange childhood fear grip her at that time of her separation from her mother even though she is leaving on her own volition. But on the other hand, there is also her desire to leave, to explore uncharted territory which would not be possible if she stayed back.
