Why is ionic bonding not possible when two atoms of similar electronegativities combine together??

Dear student,
Ionic bond formation leads the transfer of electrons from one to other atom and it can be possible only when one of the atom is electropositive while other is electronegative , if both are same electronegative then transfer could not de possible.
