Why is it necessary to increase area under forests? Give three reasons.

It is important to increase area under forests because:

a.  Forests are home to diverse flora and fauna. It provides habitat to wild life.They thus, maintain ecological balance and  provide us with oxygen and absorb carbon dioxide.

b.   Forests prevent soil erosion, control floods and landslides and mitigate climate change.

c. Forests are sources of many important herbs and material having medicinal value. They also provide fuel, wood, paper etc.
