Why is it so that gram positive bacteria have more mesosomes

Solution

Mesosomes are formed due to the infolding of the plasma membrane. They are present in both gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria. Mesosomes have been observed more commonly in gram-positive species by virtue of their prominent size and large numbers.

Whereas mesosomes found in gram-negative bacteria are often inconspicuous and difficult to identify because the mesosomes in gram negative bacteria are lamellar and are fewer in number and less extensively developed than those of gram-positive bacteria.

This can be attributed to the difference between the cell membrane of gram positive and gram negative bacteria.
