From (1) and (2)
 
∠ABX + ∠CBX = 180°
 
But ∠ABX and ∠CBX are linear pairs.

Because pair means 2 so in 180 degrees there should be 2 angles and linear means relating to a line.

You may be thinking that if linear pair means two we can create angle more than 180. No because in a straight line there is 180 degree. Linear pair is equal to supplementary angles
