Why is N2 not considered a true mineral?

Dear student,
Nitrogen is not considered a true mineral because nitrogen is one of the constituent of atmospheric gases and plants is not able to utilise it as nitrogen, rather plants utilises nitrogen in the form of ammonia or nitrate. Nitrate is formed in the soil by weathering of rocks or by atmospheric nitrogen fixation. Therefore nitrogen is not a true mineral for plant nutrition.
