why is reading thinking or studying not considered as work

Dear Student

Lethe us first understand, what is work.

Work is said to be done when a force produces a displacement in the body and acts in any direction except perpendicular to the direction of displacement.

Work = Force×Displacement×Cos θ, where, θ is the angle between directions of force and displacement.

While reading, writing or studying, there is no displacement of the body.
Force might be applied while writing, but there is zero displacement.
Hrnce, Work done is zero.

The SI unit of work is joules (J).
